Huffman Pride

Chef Curtis Huffman has been cooking for over 20 years. Ever since he was a little boy, growing up on the east side of Detroit, Curtis has had a passion for food and for the power that food has to bring people together and to transform flavors. This was confirmed when Curtis was a teenager cooking at his Mom’s restaurant where he would regularly get in trouble for leaving all of her spices out on the counter after experimenting.

After getting a business administration degree from Johnson & Wales University under his belt, the kitchen called again. Curtis became the General Manager of the Daily Bread restaurant, running all of the food operations and growing the business in to a chain that served fresh, locally grown food prepared daily as well as providing baked goods and prepared meals to restaurants and bakeries along the East Coast. The time Curtis spent at the Daily Bread has laid the foundation for A Special Taste where he is bringing all of the original recipes and fresh ingredients forward.

Back in Michigan, as a Sous Chef at the Dearborn Inn’s Early American Room and then later as the Head Chef of Comerica Park’s Tiger Den/Beer Hall and In-Seat Service, Curtis started planning for his own restaurant and catering company. Today, Curtis has realized that goal with Huffman Catering and A Special Taste. From catering to banquet facilities, Curtis creates experiences that satisfy from presentation to palate.

Curtis also believes that giving back is the cornerstone of success. Huffman Catering/A Special Taste is a proud official sponsor of the Kicks For Kids Foundation as well as providing monthly dinners for The Matrix Center in Detroit and Hashtag Lunchbag Detroit.

When Curtis isn’t working, he can be still be found in the kitchen, spending time with family and trying out new recipes. Herb roasted chicken and macaroni and cheese are family favorites, especially of Cameron, Curtis’ two-year old son.

Some recent assignments of note from Huffman Catering/A Special Taste include catering for cast and crew on numerous movie sets statewide, providing a custom menu and meals for a video shoot with Interscope/Shady Records and being appointed the official caterer of the Professional Bowlers Association in Southeast Michigan via Thunderbowl Lanes.
